IN CONJUCTION WITH
Survival Courses

Survival courses with GURKHA ADVENTURES are all about learning to live with nature, enjoying oneself, respecting the environment and pushing back the boundaries of one's capabilities, whilst learning important new skills and meeting new people. We will give you the opportunities to try out lots of new activities and implement many new ideas while having loads of fun! Our survival courses are designed to be enjoyable and safe, (we employ a Health and Safety Consultant) whilst passing on the knowledge one requires to be able to live comfortably in the wilderness. Our instructors will spend time with each participant, ensuring that each one absorbs the minimum knowledge and proficiency of a particular skill before being thrown to the wolves in our Nepali wilderness! Our instructors are widely acknowledged to be some of the best around. All courses feature hands-on training. Our pupils will be given the chance to try out their newly acquired skills and techniques; to see edible plants in their natural habitat; to build their own shelters; to have all the fun and laughs that go hand-in-hand with learning wilderness bushcraft.

A. Weekend Bushcraft Course

The weekend course is more of an enjoyable, safety-learning experience than an endurance event. If you have a group, you can book your own weekend or two-night course during the week. This is a 'hands on'; course. The instructors will explain and demonstrate at each step of the way, but the course-taker must get his/her hands dirty!

This course teaches takers the fundamental principles of survival and wilderness bushcraft. It includes navigation, fire-making, shelter-building, and food and water preparation and collection. In addition, the following subjects are covered: traps and snares, natural navigation, knife sharpening, compass navigation, identifying edible plants, fire-lighting by friction, cooking techniques, tree identification and uses for different woods, camp craft, water sourcing, collection, filtration and purification, game preparation (usually fish, mammals and birds) and more.

The course also teaches one how to live comfortably in the wilderness. This is our most popular course and when one has completed it one will understand why.

The food for the course usually consists of what is available locally at that time of year. The skills and techniques required to live in the wilderness are expertly demonstrated and explained so that they can be mastered before the course is over. No prior knowledge of survival skills is required. This is learning through experience at its best. Most people come on this course as individuals or pairs. If you have a large group, please contact us for your own weekend.

Please phone for more details.

Kit List
Not much is required for attending a Survival course.  Please do not invest in expensive kits. The more you know, the less you need to carry.

If you need to buy a kit, please do so after consulting our experts

  • Suitable outdoor clothing (see below)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Insulated sleeping mat
  • Knife, fork, spoon, mug, bowl and plate
  • Water bottle (a plastic litre-bottle)
  • Torch with fresh batteries and spare sets
  • Wash kit and towel
  • Whistle

Outdoor clothing

Outdoor clothing should be tough and comfortable.  Wearing several thin layers is better than a few thick layers.  A waterproof jacket and several sweatshirts underneath are sufficient.  Jeans should not be worn, as they are slow to dry, clinging and cold.  Natural colors or camouflage patterns will give you a better chance of spotting wildlife.  Walking boots are ideal. Please pack your torch, antibacterial wipes/soap and insect repellent at the top of your bag.
