Trekking to Gokyo Valley and Kalapatthar is a dramatic hike that is a fine alternative to the popular Everest Base Camp trek. One takes the normal trekking route of the Everest base camp trek up to Namche but from there the track deviates. The route takes one through the serene beauty of the Gokyo Valley with sparkling lakes contrasted by mighty snowcapped snow peaks. Furthermore, it is highlighted by many significant achievements: the ascent of Gokyo Ri for a panoramic view of some of the top ten majestic mountains: Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu; the crossing of Cho La pass (5420m), a challenging pass in the high Himalayas rarely attempted by trekkers; a close-up view of Everest from Kalapatthar; finally planting one’s footprint at the Everest base camp – something many people dream of. All these and more justify a truly fabulous trek. And on the return we take our guests to visit significant cultural sites: Pangboche, a traditional Sherpa village with old traditional monasteries; Tengboche, famous for its ornately decorated Tibetan monastery. Finally, there is the Himalayan flight from Lukla to Kathmandu which offers magnificent views of the earth’s highest mountain range.
