For this trip one will have to fly to Lukla from Kathmandu and trek towards Island Peak along the Khumbu valley, heading west through Tyangboche which is a very popular spot to catch magnificent views of Mt. Everest, Amadablam and Lhotse, as well as centuries-old monasteries. Literally, in the language of the Sherpas, Imja Tse means “the island in a glacial sea”, which accounts for the mountain’s name. From Island Peak spectacular views can be had of the North summit of Mt. Amadablam, the wide line of Mt. Nuptse and the Mt. Lhotse, the world’s third highest peak. The climb to Island Peak starts from the base camp, on to high camp and then the summit.
Lobuche East, in comparison to Island, is quite technical owing to its steady slopes. The views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Changtse, Mt. Pumori and Mt. Amadablam from its crest are quite marvellous. After successful ascents of both peaks the tour takes one into the Gokyo Valley after crossing Cho La pass for the sheer pleasure of beholding some sublime scenery.
